Seventeen people participated in the Second Safety Culture Seminar held for middle managers of member businesses at the BDK Center Building in Tokyo’s Minato Ward on May 27 (Thu) and 28 (Fri), 2010.

　 During the seminar, participants were provided with information as well as an opportunity to exchange information with one another; this was followed by the creation of action targets for fixing and improving the issues faced by each participant’s workplace. It is hoped that members will take specific action towards achieving these workplace targets, and a follow-up seminar will be held in November to assess members’ progress in reaching the targets they set.

1. Information Presentation

　Following on from the First Safety Culture Seminar, Michio Yoshida, Professor of Kumamoto University was invited to present information pertaining to leadership, interpersonal skills-enhancement and other topics. Some comments from participants:

·This was an extremely fruitful seminar. I want to put in practice in my office what I learned here.

·Professor Yoshida provided numerous examples and explanations which made his talk highly accessible as well as made it stick in my head.

2. Information Exchange (Group Work)

　The group work for this seminar focused primarily on issues relating to communication. Participants were divided into three groups where they discussed and exchanged information pertaining to issues in their own workplaces as well as solutions to those issues. This was followed by information exchange amongst the participants as a       
whole.

• It was reassuring to know that these issues are common to all companies, not just my own, and it gave me a renewed resolve to tackle them.
• I received a variety of suggestions on how to resolve the issues my workplace faces.
• I felt the session was also fruitful in that it expanded participants’ circle of acquaintances.
