I am Hiroaki Kawashima, the director in charge of NS Net Division.

NS Net Division started as the Nuclear Safety Network (NS Net) which was established in the wake of the JCO criticality accident.Companies or organizational bodies engaged in the nuclear business should encourage nuclear safety culture throughout the organization at the individual level.NS Net Division supports our member companies and organizations based on the following three main activities.

1. Peer Reviews
2. Encouragement and Improvement of Safety Culture
3. Exchange and Distribution of Safety Culture Information

As of now, we have conducted six peer reviews for nuclear power stations since FY 2005 with the participation of overseas experts and based on field observations. We have been continually improving the quality of the peer review system.Since the establishment of the former NS Net, we have conducted 66 peer reviews in total including the peer reviews of nuclear facilities other than power stations. In addition, for identification of strengths and proposal for improvements during each peer review, we started to support activities for our members since FY 2008.

With regard to the Encouragement and Improvement of Safety Culture, we conduct a variety of activities.
We have conducted questionnaire surveys from about 10,000 people and provided the analysis results as feedback to our members.
Since FY 2007, we have conducted on-site safety culture diagnoses at three power plants in order to study the individual awareness and the organizational characteristics.
We have just recently completed the 105th session of the Safety Caravan sessions. For the Safety Seminars, we have incorporated exercises and training sessions as well as the conventional hands-on methods. Additionally, more than 10,000 people have utilized the system of safety culture e-learning material, such as “From knowledge to awareness toward action.”We are striving to reinforce the learning environment for the benefit of all our members.

With regard to the Exchange and Distribution of Safety Culture Information, we publish the results of our activities on our JANTI website.Frank opinions and comments are highly appreciated, along side further cooperation and guidance.
