The 15th Managers' Seminar was held for two days on December 12 & 13 (Wednesday & Thursday) 2007 at the TKP Business Center in Minato-ku, Tokyo, with 17 middle-class managers from various member companies' business offices in attendance.  In this Managers' Seminar, there was not just the usual passive lecture, but tactical exercises through which participants actively experienced CRM (Crew Resource Management) exercises that are used in the aviation and other industries aimed at aiding the acquisition and creation of safety culture.

1st Day: Lecture
"A New Era in Training -- Experiencing CRM Training Which Has a Proven Track Record in the Aviation Industry-- "

Guest lecturer Akira Ishibashi,Captain of Director Research and Development Section of the Japan Institute of Human Factors was invited to the seminar, where he introduced CRM Training, and spoke in regard to:
・ the rearing and background of CRM training
・ the structuring of CRM training and its results
・ the state of adoption by other industries.

2nd Day:
CRM Training Experience (tactical exercises)

During the CRM Training Experience

Picking up from the previous day, Akira Ishibashi, Captain of Director Research and Development Section of the Japan Institute of Human Factors Inc. lectured on:


・ CRM training communication techniques
・ case studies in aviation accidents
・ techniques in recognizing circumstances.
...and tactical exercises in experiencing CRM training first hand were carried out.

 

In the questionnaire after the seminar, the following opinions were expressed.

● The lecture included ample cases and was easy to understand.
● I was able to understand why CRM is needed.
● In addition to the lecture, there was group discussion and I understood thoroughly.  The presentation was also easy to understand.
● The tactical exercises were effective in promoting understanding.
● The training envisioned the actual work-place, making it possible to think about my own problems at work.
● By brainstorming discussion of opinions, the points were completely clarified.
● I learned a little about the techniques of communication and taking notice.
● The concept of "taking notice" has never been taken up before, and it was very informative.  It was very useful being able to experience the good points of CRM through training exercises.
