2. Overview of the establishment |
|
Ikata Power Station is situated at the root of the Inland Sea side of narrow Sadamisaki peninsula, which extends from the extreme northwest of Shikoku towards Kyushu. The power station, operated by Shikoku Electric Power Co., Inc., has three nuclear reactors, No.1, which began operations in September 1977, No.2, which started operating in March 1982, and No.3, which has been running since December 1994. The rated power output is 566 million watts for reactor No.1, 566 million watts for reactors No. 2, and 890 million watts for reactor No. 3. This important power station is responsible for 40% of Shikoku's power output. |

We conducted peer review activities with the participation of Mr. Minoru Yoshida, Chief Assessor for QMS/EMS/OHSAS at ABS QE Japan Inc. Mr. Minoru Yoshida also participated in a review of quality assurance program. |

In summing up this review of the Ikata Power Station, Shikoku Electric Power Co.,Inc,
we have not found any item in the nuclear safety field that would lead to a serious accident unless immediate remedies were taken. |

To coincide with the introduction of quality management systems at Ikata Power Station, the superintendent has established "organizational quality goals", which are based on the "quality guidelines for nuclear power safety" laid down by the company president. Moreover, each group leader has established "individual quality goals" for their group. In addition to implementing concrete policies for nuclear power safety in this way, the power station management aims to raise safety awareness through the distribution of e-mails regarding the "quality guidelines" and distributing information cards. The power station is also doing its utmost to promote compliance and ensure that all executives and employees have a higher level of compliance awareness in addition to implementing various measures to eliminate human error, including the implementation of third-party surveys for that purpose. |
