Safety Presentation

Safety Presentation

Ms. Murakami

About 160 persons, including the employees of Kobe Shipyard & Machinery Works, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. and cooperating companies, attended the Safety Presentation.

At the beginning of the Presentation, Mr.Uratani, General Manager, Kobe Shipyard & Machinery Works, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd, gave an address and said, "Falsification of records in nuclear power stations has occurred after the JCO accident in 1999. It was a very regrettable incident for the nuclear industry. As a result, it seriously compromises the public' confidence in nuclear power. Our company is also making daily efforts to contribute to restore its confidence in nuclear power. Ms. Murakami will make her presentation under the title of GE's Corporate Ethics Rules and Practice for this session. Currently, I believe that compliance is very important. I'd like to exploit lessons learned from her lecture in our future activities.

After the address, Mr. Machida, Secretary-Genera of NSnet, introduced NSnet activities, and this was followed by a lecture entitled"Compliance/ Integrity Policy of GE and Its Practices" delivered by Ms. Murakami, Board of Director, Advisor, Global Nuclear Fuel Japan Co., Ltd
During the lecture, the importance of compliance, GE's integrity policy, compliance organization , process for compliance incidents and penetration of compliance culture were presented by Ms. Murakami, together with some specific cases in compliance.
She said, "Compliance is a big business risk. The risk control is an important business challenge. In order to make employees understand that top management seriously works on the diffusion of compliance, it is important to repeatedly deliver this message at every opportunity. GE has priorities of Integrity, Safety, Quality, Output(ISQO)and places top priority on Integrity. GE considers compliance as 100-year gene. "

Safety information exchange session

At the safety information exchange session, we asked MrTaya Deputy Manager Compliance Administration Office JGC CORPORATION to give an in-depth explanation about the good practices cited by the peer review of the Technical center JGC CORPORATION regarding "Penetration of Corporate Ethics based on Compliance Program "

The main information and opinions exchanged were:

-
JGC promotes action manuals and goals in each headquarters based on its overall group's basic philosophy, action guidelines and manuals. Does each headquarters have it own characteristics?
-
Because of different operation characteristics in each headquarters, individual headquarters defines action manuals in line with its own activities. It can be said that employees feel that manuals prepared by a compliance administration office are imposed on them, but can easily observe self-imposed goals.
-
Do you have a counseling system for problem solution like a help line when letters are submitted or advice is asked?
-

The department in charge described in booklets corresponds to problems relating to compliance, human rights/sexual harassment security/trade management and other issues. Problems and complaints through the department are delivered over the phone or via in-house e-mail.
In addition to the above system, we have the “JGC Council” that is equivalent to a labor-management consultation and that provides database for general employees. The database has a system on which the employees can consult with the compliance administration office about their problems and complaints.
