NSnet Peer Review of Ariake Machinery Works, Hitachi Zosen Corporation (Hitachi Zosen Diesel & Engineering Co., Ltd.), conducted over a three-day period starting May 20th, was completed. A summary of the review is shown below.

1. Reviewed Establishment (location)
Ariake Machinery Works, Hitachi Zosen Corporation (Hitachi Zosen Diesel & Engineering Co., Ltd.), located in Nagasu-machi, Kumamoto Prefecture.

2. Overview of the establishment and targets of review
Hitachi Zosen has been involved in the design and manufacture of nuclear-power related machinery and equipment since it began developing a nuclear-powered ship in 1956. In the spent fuel transport container field in particular, it has delivered 41 casks for light-water reactor fuel transport all over the world ever since it delivered the first such cask produced in Japan in 1978, the HZ-75T cask. In recent years, the company has delivered over 160 spent fuel storage containers and canisters in Japan and the U.S. The Works is also engaged in the design and manufacture of prime movers, mostly for diesel engines.
The target of this review is the safety promotion activities involving design and fabrication of spent fuel transport containers and spent fuel storage containers at the Works.
