On April 4, 2003, the Fiscal 2003 Top Seminar was held for the top management and general manager level of member organizations at the Keidanren Kaikan Hall, in Ohtemachi, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo. About 100 individuals participated in the event.
At the seminar, invited lecturers were Prof. Dr. Nishizawa, Chairman of Japan Atomic Industrial forum, Inc., and Ph. D. Taka, Professor of Reitaku University. They spoke of their proposals for restoring confidence in nuclear energy and the importance of establishing corporate ethics.

Lectures

President Makino

At the beginning, President Makino introduced lecturers and policies for future activities of NSnet as follows:
"Many nuclear power stations are suspended for re-inspection. The possibility of a power outage cannot be denied as the current situation continues. This is a year of a nuclear power crisis. I hear that the Federation of Electric Power Companies of Japan will emphasize ethics issues at the Trust Restoration Committee. We, NSnet, will also expand our activities centering on ethics and would appreciate your cooperation."

Prof. Dr Nishizawa

Prof. Dr Nishizawa gave a specific speech entitled "Proposals for Regaining Confidence in Nuclear Energy" based on his experience regarding Japan's and the world's energy supply in the 21st century and restoring confidence.
- Those who are engaged in engineering must not forget that their contribution to human society must always be the basis of science and technology.
- In addition, as the foundation of safety, psychological theories are also important, but the establishment of systems is crucial, as is fostering a culture that reveres safety."
- We should concentrate our efforts on having the general public understand how important energy is.
- If engineers engaged in nuclear energy do their jobs in good faith, it may lead to restoring many people's confidence. It is important to have the intention of cooperating at all costs for the safe operation of nuclear energy as an energy source that is extremely important for the world.
- It is necessary to have the intention of constantly putting things right. It is also absolutely necessary to continue to grow maintaining an amicable balance between humanity and science and technology.

Dr. Taka

In addition, Dr. Taka gave a speech entitled "To Establish Corporate Ethics" regarding the necessity for addressing corporate ethics and he introduced some examples, pointing out some instances as the chairman of the corporate ethics committee of a food company.
- Circumstances under which incidents and scandals are coped with have been changing. The society and marketplace in general would not be satisfied unless a mechanism is established to ensure corporate integrity.
- What protects a company in the end is a code of ethics that employees have developed to their satisfaction. Working in accordance with it serves as their anchorage.
- An open workplace could not be achieved unless a relationship as partners is built so that we can work equally with client companies.
- The nuclear industry is an industry that can be built upon trust and respect. I think that it is an important idea to work in good faith for employees, local residents, consumers, and each and every stakeholder.
