2. Overview of the establishment and targets of review
Starting with the development of a pressurized water reactor (PWR) in 1957, the nuclear operations of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries have encompassed a wide range of activities: development, design, manufacturing, testing and installation as well as operation support and after-sales service for many PWR power plants, as well as the development, design and manufacturing of various systems of advanced reactors and in the field of the nuclear fuel cycle. Kobe Shipyard & Machinery of the company is manufacturing ships, steel constructions, environment protection equipment, motors and atomic energy related products. It is the core part of their nuclear operations. Kobe Shipyard & Machinery consists of the Main Plant in Kobe-shi, Hyogo Prefecture, Futami Plant in Akashi-shi, Hyogo Prefecture, and Taibi Plant in Aki-gun, Hiroshima Prefecture. The review focused on the Main Factory, which is the center of the nuclear related activities of the company.
