2. Overview of the establishment and targets of review
At the nuclear business of Hitachi, Ltd., since the start of development of nuclear power in 1954, a number of boiling water reactors (BWR) and advanced BWR (ABWR) have been developed, designed, manufactured, inspected, and installed. Operational support and after-service have also been provided. Technological development and system design and manufacturing have also been undertaken regarding new types of reactors and the nuclear fuel cycle. In this company, the Nuclear System Division is the center of these activities and works in cooperation with other divisions. The review was conducted on the activities carried out by the Nuclear System Division in the Hitachi Administrative Division to promote safety. In terms of manufacturing, the "Rinkai Factory," which is a main factory for manufacturing nuclear equipment, was also reviewed.
