On August 28, 2001, the 23rd Safety Caravan was held at Sumitomo Atomic Energy Industries, Ltd., located in Sumida-ku, Tokyo.

Discussion session

Discussion session

At the discussion session, NSnet introduced the activities of NSnet as a whole, the current status regarding the conducting of a peer review and member Website, and the like.
Sumitomo Atomic Energy Industries, Ltd. introduced its safety activities:
"The policy of the management of Sumitomo Atomic Energy Industries, Ltd., as it is clearly stated in 'The Principles of Our Company,' 'Safety Policy,' and 'Quality Policy,' is to make contributions to nuclear safety through software products, typical products of our company, for design, analysis and evaluation, research and study, etc."
Among the main opinions in the subsequent discussions included the following:
- At power stations, safety philosophy was taught by GE, the designer, in the early stages. Safety depends on the design, and it is important for designers to understand and diffuse the concept of safety.
- Up until now, our designing work and so on has been based on the reliability of personal relationships, but I think that in the future, we must account for overall results.
