About 110 people attended the safety presentation, including staff of the Power Supply Equipment Factory and staff of cooperating companies.

The executive officer, general manager of the Power Supply Equipment Factory opened the Safety Presentation by saying, "Through today's Safety Caravan, I would like everyone to come to have common ideas about safety, such as by once again considering safety an issue of your own and always keeping it in your mind."

Safety Presentation
After the greetings, the Secretary-General of the NSNet, Mr. Umezu, introduced NSNet activities. Following that, a lecturer from Chubu Electric Power Co. Inc. gave a lecture titled "Efforts made by the Hamaoka Nuclear Power Plant for the sake of preserving safety." The lecture included examples regarding the way organizations should act related to securing safety and with regard to the safety readiness of technical engineers
The lecture touched on such detailed topics as the following.
Efforts conducted as an organization:
"The most important issue for preserving safety is the top management always displaying the recognition that "safety is the main priority." Also crucial is consideration of how to have this policy of the top staff take root throughout the entire organization."
"As a way to create an open atmosphere to exchange opinions, we at Hamaoka Nuclear Power Plant convene regular meetings among the plant's top administrators, on-site managers and work supervisors. We have also established an opinion box "Meyasu-bako" (which is a means of encouraging everyone on location at the plant to convey his or her opinions, such as proposals for improving work) and opened the nuclear power plant to the local community and to the mass media, among other efforts."

The safety readiness of technical engineers
"It is important to always possess the following understanding: "Be faithful to the truth," "Know the limits of technology," "Reveal the facts about any happening that occurs," "Using technology, work for the happiness of every individual."

Discussion session

Discussion session
At the discussion session, NSNet introduced the current status regarding the conducting of a peer review and the exclusive website for the members.

Additionally, Fuji Electric introduced its various efforts related to safety and quality, such as its high-reliability activities and its quality-assurance activities at HTTR, among others. After that, there was an exchange of opinions, with the following opinions resulting from the discussions.

"For the staff and the cooperating companies working on site at nuclear power plants, necessary information is sent from the head office by e-mail and utilized at the workplace through incorporating into education for new hires and into morning meetings. The information is also posted on the bulletin board in the office."

"In safety there is no specific remedy in securing safety. Simply repeating the word "safety," has no effect at all, so it is important to incorporate specific examples while continuing to say this."
