On May 16, 2001, the first Safety Caravan of the year 2001 was held at Mitsubishi Electric Corporation's Energy & Industrial Systems Centar, which is located in the city of Kobe, Hyogo Prefecture.

Safety Presentation

About 120 people attended the Safety Lecture, including staff of the Energy & Industrial Systems Centar and staff of cooperating companies.
The manager of the Systems Centar, opened the lecture with the following greetings: "It is my hope that all staff members related to our centar come to a sufficient understanding of the contents of today's lecture and discussions, and after fully contemplating such matters, go on to share and improve the safety culture in the field of nuclear power."
After the greetings, Secretary-General of the NSNet, Mr. Umezu, introduced NSNet activities. Following that, the lecturer from the Central Research Institute of Electric Power Industry, gave a lecture titled "Chained phenomena and human factors." He focused on the situation of accidents and related human factors (group characteristics, communication, etc.), based on examples such as the Japan Airlines "near-miss accident" in January this year.

Safety presentation
The lecture included a variety of stories related to chained phenomena and human factors, such as "Accidents and troubles occur as a result of the buildup of small happenings (chained phenomena), and for this reason, accidents and troubles can be prevented by interrupting this series of events." Also, "By looking at your own work from the perspective of human factors in your daily routine, you can become aware of potential problems and construct preventative measures."

Additionally, he introduced the educational materials developed at the Central Research Institute of Electric Power Industry related to support for fostering a "human factor culture."
