Safety Presentation

The safety presentation was attended by approximately 50 employees from the power station and related companies.
Following a presentation by NSnet on its activities, a lecturer from the Japan Atomic Power Company, gave a report entitled "Attitudes Toward Nuclear Safety," and another lecturer from the Toshiba Institute of Nuclear Engineering, discussed "The future of the Nuclear Industry-Caring for People and Technology." |
The lecturer said that workers in the nuclear industry should be able to go about their jobs in a relatively relaxed manner, provided that they recognize the potential danger involved. He also stressed that safety could only be maintained at nuclear power stations if every single worker implemented his or her job in an appropriate and safe manner, adding that nuclear power was necessary for the future of humankind, and that those involved in the nuclear industry should work together with a sense of pride.
Another lecturer offered his personal view of the nuclear safety culture. He touched on the attitude engineers should adopt, noting that they should be judged not on what they say, but on the contribution they make to society. He also spoke about the importance of passing on nuclear power technology, and about ethical education among nuclear power engineers.
