7th Safety Caravan was held on October 24, 2000 at the Mitsubishi Materials Corp., Energy and Ecosystem Laboratories.

The safety presentation was attended by approximately 70 employees of the Energy and Ecosystem Laboratories.

The presentation described past incidents at fuel cycle plants, including the Tomsk 7 explosion, the Hanford explosion, and the PNC, at present Japan Nuclear Cycle Development Institute asphalt solidifying plant fire and explosion, which the recturer had himself investigated. The causes of the accidents were discussed, together with the lessons that have been learned from them.

In the discussion session that followed the safety presentation, NSnet introduced its web site for members and safety training materials, and Mitsubishi Materials Corp. introduced new safety activities incorporating lessons learned from the JCO accident. Opinions were then exchanged on the subject of nuclear power safety.
