1st Safety Caravan was held over a two-day period on July 6 and 7, 2000 at the Japan Nuclear Fuel Ltd., Rokkasho Administration and Nuclear Fuel Transport Co., Ltd., Rokkasho Transport Operations Office.

Safety presentations

 

Safety presentations were given on July 7 at the "Suwannee" Rokkasho Cultural Exchange Plaza by two lecturers from The Japan Atomic Power Company and The Tokyo Electric Power Co., Inc.,entitled, respectively, "The attitude for nuclear power safety" and "What is the key to safety."
They were attended by approximately 250 employees from the Japan Nuclear Fuel Limited Rokkasho Administration and the Rokkasho Transport Operation Office of Nuclear Fuel Transport Co., Ltd. and other related businesses involved.

The JAPC's lecturer's presentation included the message, "The foundation of safety is working with full awareness of the potential dangers of nuclear power."
Another lecturer explained safety factors in accident-free industries through the use of actual case studies.

A final address was made by NSnet President Makino, in which he emphasized the importance of nuclear energy and called for safety management to be given the utmost priority.

Discussion session

Visits were made to both sites on July 6, prior to the safety presentations. During the visits, NSnet's activities were introduced, and discussions on training and education were held among safety managers.
