I am Tamihei Nakamura, in charge of the General Affairs Division.

During the three years that have passed since the founding of our organization, the three principle pillars, which are “gathering, analyzing, and utilizing information,” “promoting the safety culture,” and “developing private-sector standards,” have essentially been put on track. As these tasks have gradually been put into effect, we have given flexibility to the organization and positioned staff personnel in order to be able to respond to essential duties that accompany the ever-changing external circumstances.

In addition to these three pillars, the goal of "fostering and maintaining nuclear engineers," which began in FY 2007 as the fourth pillar, has picked up speed in FY 2008. Our principle tasks include considerations for the implementation of the chief plant operator certification, the introduction of private-sector certification system, and the furnishing of basic technology, which is common among all electric power utilities in order to adopt maintenance programs for nuclear power stations. These tasks will hereafter rank as the core functions of this organization, and for this reason the "Plant Technical Support Division" was established in April of this year.

Thus, the initial structure visualized at the time of JANTI's founding was thereby established, and steady progress has been made in the direction of the fundamental scale of business.

Our frank feeling during these three years is that we have at least continued on track undeterred, despite the numerous issues to deal with. However, it is time to evaluate our track record, such as whether our members favorably appraise the results we have obtained and if the organization operated effectively during these three years, and make the necessary improvements. We shall clarify the issues and embark upon activities aimed for improvement.
Perhaps one of the biggest issues is securing human resources. JANTI promotes the establishing of a nuclear technology foundation based on scientific and logical data and supports voluntary improvement of safety activities in the nuclear power industry, while the same time we must also enforce restraints from a third party perspective. In order to do so, we have to possess engineering specialties while also continuously administrating the organization. We have to establish medium and long term business plans, and it is important that the projects should agree with those essential plans. It could be said that this is the biggest issue for our organization, and we must take a step forward in order to develop hereafter.

Nevertheless, we will put our efforts into increasing the opportunities to listen to the opinions and requests of our members so that they will better understand JANTI's activities. So far, the technology seminars held in outlying regions have been held four times since the initiation the year before last. This year we will continue the seminars but in different places, and moreover, the content will be reinforced. Furthermore, we will improve the readability of our public website to promote the understanding of our activities and comply with requests.
