The NS Net Division is the successor to the activities of the Nuclear Safety Network (NS Net), which was established in the wake of the JCO accident in 1999, supporting and encouraging member companies' efforts toward operational safety improvement.
Conducting Peer Reviews on a regular basis for NS Net Division member companies who are active players of Japan's nuclear fuel cycle system.
As far as electric power companies (nuclear power plants) are concerned, we conduct peer reviews based mainly on site observations to support safe and reliable operations of nuclear power plants, in cooperation with INPO and WANO.In this respect, we identify "what kind of endeavors are being made for the achievement of nuclear safety in the daily operations of power plants" with taking account of operational experience around the world to extract good practices (strength) and suggestions for improvement (Area for improvement needed) in the peer review.
Aside from electric power companies, the members who take on various projects in nuclear power industry are making diverse endeavors toward nuclear safety in accordance with the nature of their activities (use of fissile materials or not, quantity used, potential for criticality, and so on), scale of the enterprise, and their regulatory environment.The NS Net Division supports and encourages the enhancement of members' safety culture, by conducting peer reviews in accordance with the needs and individual characteristics of each member.

Targeting managers of member companies, the Division organizes conventional or hands-on seminars involving experts on the theme of nuclear safety, as well as seminars that include workshops for introducing useful approaches for fostering safety culture.
The Division travels to each individual facility of the member companies and safety lectures by experts are presented, and information is exchanged with personnel affiliated with the facilities regarding nuclear safety.
Safety lectures are presented with the themes of root causes of recent troubles and improprieties that are not necessarily limited to the nuclear power industry alone.
Concrete discussion themes based on the safety lectures are selected, and information and opinions are exchanged under those themes.
Booklets on safety culture enhancement based on seminars and Safety Caravan lectures are published to members. E-learning materials are also produced on the theme of safety culture for distribution among members.
The website aimed at the public introduces the content of NS Net Division activities and track record of past activities.Also, as a service to members, an electronic newsletter is published and distributed, and through the website for members, detailed results of activities and various databases are provided that are useful for promoting safety culture.
